Staff Spotlight

Community Energy Project is proud to provide a variety of direct, in-homes services and educational workshops, and participate in important advocacy work. Behind all of these vital efforts is a team of vibrant, multifaceted, and hardworking individuals. We are excited to introduce the CEP Staff Spotlight, a series dedicated to the people who make everything we do possible. Today’s spotlight shines on CEP’s In-Homes Operations Manager, Dessiree Price.

  1. Describe your role at CEP and what makes you passionate about your position.

As an Operations Manager, I handle the intake, scheduling, outreach, and client relations for the In-Home Services Department. I also help CEP to coordinate with other organizations to support the needs of the community. It brings me joy to know that I am a part of CEP’s mission. We strive to bring comfort to families in multiple ways. It’s not just a warm, safe home – our services also bring these families much needed mental and emotional comfort.

  1. What is your work background and how does this empower you at CEP?

My previous work experience was in the healthcare system and I thought that was satisfying until I found CEP. The first week of having hands-on experience with clients, seeing how much joy and relief our services brought a person and their home, I knew this was where I wanted to be. The difference for me is that I get to hear feedback from our community and learn how CEP has had a positive impact on them and their families.

  1. Describe the program you run and why it is important to CEP and the community you serve.

I remember many nights not having heat, warm water, or light in my home. Although lighting candles brought our family closer together, and our bodies close to one another helped keep us warm, there were many times that it was hard to live comfortably during those trying circumstances. It gives me peace of mind knowing that we are helping others. I know first-hand how important it is to keep your family safe and warm. I believe I was led in this direction to help others like myself.

  1. What is a problem that the Portland community faces and how is your team addressing the issue?

There are so many families in need in the Portland community. Their needs range from large repairs, to simple home necessities that many take for granted. We value our clients’ feedback and concerns and if there is something that we are unable to provide we do our best to connect them with the appropriate resource. We provide weatherization for drafts and energy efficiency supplies to improve living conditions and reduce utility bills. We also provide safety for the vulnerable communities we serve. Some of these supplies include grab bars, handrails, locks, and doors. We also provide services that some of our clients are incapable of doing themselves such as cleaning gutters and removing and installing new heat pump water heaters.

  1. What makes CEP unique in addressing climate change?

CEP is different in that we are not just a voice for the people, we are also equally committed to the health of the environment. All of our services are geared towards improving the lives of our clients and increasing environmental sustainability. The repairs and materials we supply help our clients live comfortably, safely, and reduce their financial burdens, while simultaneously reducing their carbon footprint.

  1. If you had to pick one meal to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I’d have to pick chicken, bread, and vegetables.
