Solar Coordinator
Do you care about equitable access to renewable energy? Community Energy Project is responsible for the low-income carve-out of the Oregon Community Solar Program. This position is tasked with the most critical aspect of successful low-income engagement with the benefits of community solar: working directly with low-income utility customers. The Solar Coordinator guides interested customers through the process of understanding the program, setting realistic expectations, and then ensuring that the systems are in place for an easy journey that ends in more affordable electricity bills. They support Project Managers in their recruitment goals and track accountability measures to help ensure program integrity. They also work within a wide variety of community partnerships for outreach and education. They track data and craft reports when needed to ensure transparency to stakeholders. This position is perfect for an outgoing person who is also capable of careful, timely data management, has strong writing skills, and a passion for a just renewable energy future.

Policy and Advocacy Manager: Will further develop CEP’s advocacy and policy program focused on energy justice, decarbonization, and green and healthy homes. CEP’s advocacy program works in legislative, regulatory and rule making areas.  We directly work with the Oregon Public Utility Commission, utilities, state, county and city agencies and other policy arenas. CEP works frequently with other environmental justice stakeholders around rulemaking, bills, and program design with a strong equity lens for frontline communities. CEP provides a unique perspective in the advocacy arena as an agency that serves low-income Oregonians directly through education, efficiency upgrades, repairs, and more. Community Energy Project is looking for leaders like you to join our board of directors.

If you are one or more of the following, we’d like to talk to you:

  • An accounting or finance professional looking to join our board as Treasurer.
  • Have a background in nonprofit, contract or HR law to join us as a board member at large.
  • A community leader and philanthropist willing to engage your peers to advocate for our mission.

To advance our mission and equity goals, we aim for our board to represent the communities we serve. Those who are frontline community members, such as BIPOC folks or those who have experienced low-income, are encouraged to contact us. We welcome those with lived experience, who can help us more deeply serve our community.

Board Expectations:

  • Attend six board meetings annually
  • Actively serve on one of our committees: Equity, Advocacy, Vision and Action, and Operations
  • Advocate for our needs in the community and among your colleagues and peers
  • Make a personal, charitable contribution to Community Energy Project, to the best of their ability

To begin the process of volunteering with CEP. Schedule an appointment for a volunteer meeting to discuss your interests and available opportunities. All volunteers participate in an orientation and receive relevant training. Oftentimes orientation and training can occur on the first day of service.

Follow-Up Phone Surveys

After a client has attended a workshop or in-homes services, we like to follow up with them. This gives folks a chance to provide feedback and helps us to improve our programs. In addition, our findings are used in our reports to our funders.

Minimum age: 18. (2-4 hours each time)

Tabling

Volunteers and staff representing CEP distribute information about our programs at various community events throughout Portland and the surrounding area. This is a good way to meet other fantastic people in the non-profit community.

Kit Assembly

We have three programs that give away thousands of free supply items with workshops. It takes a lot of time and effort to assemble kits for 1,100+ workshop participants. This can include some heavy lifting.

Opportunity varies

Clerical / Office

In the busy season we have opportunities to answer phones, enter data, and help clients process their paperwork.

In-Home Weatherization

If you would like to do “on the ground” work, take pride in doing a job right, and are familiar with basic tools, this is a great position. Using energy saving materials such as interior vinyl storm windows, individuals and teams of volunteers weatherize the homes of 230 seniors and people with disabilities every year. We provide training for all of our volunteers before heading out to the homes.

Minimum age: 14. (Typically 4-6 hours each time) Most weekdays, and many Saturdays from October to February.

Opportunities Vary by Season

  • Fall/Winter (Sep-Feb): Peak season – opportunities include weatherization teams, leading workshops, answering phones, or assisting at community fairs.
  • Spring (Mar-May): Conducting follow-up surveys on the phone
  • Summer (Jun-Aug): Community events (tabling) and inventory
