Staff Spotlight: Siraat Younas

Staff Spotlight

Community Energy Project is proud to provide a variety of direct, in-homes services and educational workshops, and participate in important advocacy work. Behind all of these vital efforts is a team of vibrant, multifaceted, and hardworking individuals. We are excited to introduce the CEP Staff Spotlight, a series dedicated to the people who make everything we do possible. Today’s spotlight shines on CEP’s Climate Justice Associate, Siraat Younas

1.Describe your role at CEP and what makes you passionate about your position.

I am the Climate Justice Associate at CEP and I advocate for legislation, policy and program design that is equitable, and centers the needs of frontline, climate justice communities. What makes me the most passionate about my position is that we are not only pushing for a transition to clean energy, we are also working to ensure that the transition is just and equitable.

2. What is your work background and one unique skill you bring to CEP?

I have previously worked as a projects and energy lawyer where a core part of handling power projects was collaborating with various stakeholders in the energy sector; governmental departments, domestic and foreign lenders, technical and financial advisors, as well as community members. Handling a diverse client base has given me the skill set required to navigate the regulatory landscape surrounding climate policies and potential challenges that the shift to green energy may face.

3. Describe one accomplishment you’ve made at CEP or a goal you have for the future in this role.

I hope that my professional transition to policy and advocacy, and my commitment to upholding the values of equity and responsibility to traditionally underserved groups will be a meaningful addition to CEP’s great work – to create real change at a systemic level towards the advancement of environmental justice and carbon neutrality.

4. If you had to pick one meal to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Chicken biryani – day and night!
