Oregon lawmakers seek to make utility bills more affordable, transparent

State lawmakers are working on legislation that would give Oregon regulators broader discretion in setting power rates, with the aim of making energy bills more affordable, reducing the number of bill increases and making utility costs more transparent for customers.

Sponsors said they are responding to Oregon’s residential electricity customers who are reeling from a series of rate hikes that have sent utility bills up by nearly 50% in the Portland area since 2021.
