Staff Spotlight: Bob Buckstaff

October 31, 2025 Staff Spotlight

A new Community Energy Project is proud to provide a variety of direct, In-Homes services and educational workshops, and participate in important advocacy work. Behind all of these vital efforts is a team of vibrant, multifaceted, and hardworking individuals. The CEP Staff Spotlight is a series dedicated to the people who make everything we do possible. Today’s spotlight shines on one of CEP’s In-Homes Auditors, Bob Buckstaff.

1. Describe your role at CEP and what makes you passionate about your position.

I'm an auditor on the In-homes team at CEP. That essentially means that when someone calls in for help on a home repair or energy efficiency upgrade, I'm one of the people that fields the inquiry, goes to take a look, and figures out what resources are available to help in a given situation. It's a great job, and it always keeps me right there on the tip of my toes. I love the process of coming up with creative solutions to issues in the homes I enter everyday.

I really enjoy working with our clients to bring them to a happy, healthy outcome. Above all, I am just so appreciative to work on a team that provides me with the resources to produce that outcome. I really lucked out here.

2. What is your work background and one unique skill you bring to CEP?

I spent the better part of my adult life as a touring musician. Glamorous as the concept may sound, it is not exactly the easiest line of work, and, to be plain, I can relate personally to the struggles of being low-income that so many of our clients face. That early career path led me to a variety of jobs between playing shows. From a construction hand, to carpenter, to home inspector, and finally becoming an energy auditor at this fine organization.

3. Describe one accomplishment you’ve made at CEP or a goal you have for the future in this role.

Here, the support for professional development is unmatched. I was recently afforded the opportunity to get my Building Analyst Professional certification from the Building Performance Institute. This and other educational opportunities that CEP has provided have allowed me to really understand the science behind everything we're doing to make comfortable, safe, healthy homes. This knowledge is key to making programs like ours tick. I feel like I've gotten vastly better at informing and improving outcomes for the homeowners and communities that we serve.
