Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair, and Painting


Community Energy Project is an EPA Accredited Training Provider for the Renovation, Repair and Painting requirements for contractors and others who disturb lead-based paint in targeted housing. CEP offers both the 8-hour Initial Renovator Training and the 4-hour Renovator Refresher training.

RRP Class Outlines

The 8-hour training, $217

The training is comprised of 8 classroom modules and 11 hands-on skill sets that are evaluated during the 8-hour training. The modules include

the following:
  • Why lead paint should be a concern
  • Current regulations
  • Preparation of worksite
  • Containing dust during work
  • Cleaning activities and checking work
  • Recordkeeping
  • Training non-certified renovation workers
  • Hands-on activities
  • Review and test

The 4-hour Refresher Training, $125

Proof of having received the intiial EPA RRP full training in the last 5 years or proof of having completed the HUD-approved Lead-Safe Work Practices training is required to take the 4-hour refresher training.

About the Trainer


Perry Cabot is the Community Education Supervisor for Community Energy Project, where he's worked since 2005. Bilingual in Spanish, he coordinates and leads the Lead Poisoning Prevention and Lead-Safe Home Projects workshops, and oversees the sealed HEPA vacuum lending program. He conducts lead dust sampling for the Multnomah County Health Department in support of the Portland Development Commission’s Regional Lead Hazard Control Grant Program. Perry is a State of OR Certified Lead-Based Paint Risk Assessor and maintains a certificate in HUD Lead-safe remodeling.
